Parrot Bebop

When you are talking flying machines aka drones, you might have heard about the company called the Parrot. They make a lot of drones, but the recently launched Parrot Bebop drone is something different from the others and is more focused on cameras. Bring the main focus; it is right upfront here with the battery pack right behind it. But the moment you look at it, there is no denying that the camera is the center of the show. And at first glance, it might not look like much, but there is a lot going on under the hood. It has GPS and GLONASS satellite connectivity so that it can connect to a lot of satellites which can exactly tell where it is on the earth. With the help of that, it can stay in one position without any issues. The camera on the front is a 1080P camera which streams to your tablet so that you can see what it is doing in realtime. It also got a bunch of little things like the pressure sensors, gyroscope, accelerometers which tell where it is exactly moving and how high off the ground it is. In addition, to being able to fly this thing outside, you can fly this thing pretty easily indoors too. As mentioned earlier, it may not look like a high-end drone from the outside as the built quality, etc. is not that all that great. The battery pack is held on by a velcro strap so don’t expect anything exceptional regarding build quality.

But don’t let that fool you. This is a pretty stealthy looking drone that can take a tumble. All the parts found on this thing are easy to replace. What that means is, you can easily just beat this drone up, and it is not that big of a problem. The camera in this thing is a super wide angled 180-degree fish eye lens. It shoots 14MP still and 1080p videos. And normally the lens distortion which you get with this kind of wide angled lens is not present here. All the footage that you see here is corrected in software, and it looks nice. Right out of the box, this guy comes with two batteries and both of which will give you about 11 minutes of fly time each. It will vary with how hard you are trying to fly it and how hard are you pushing these motors. Once you manage to kill them, it will take about 1-2 hours to charge each one of them. In terms of speed, you can get this drone hover in place and not move an inch to about 13 m/s or about 27-30 miles an hour. If you are just using a controller to use it, then you can get about 250m of range. It also has an auto return function, so if incase it goes out of range, then it will fly back to get in range and then reestablish the connection. The thing which is most fascinating is that it is a tag along drone. You can easily just throw it in your backpack and forget about it. Bottomline, if you re interested in getting into drones or shooting videos and images from the sky, this is probably a pretty good place to start. Or if you re already a pro and want something even better, then maybe check out the highly recommended DJI Mavic Pro.
