Google Chromecast is a small casting device which let’s you play a slew of online media content from popular platforms like Netflix, Hulu, etc. and it simply makes any TVs of a display with an HDMI port, a smart TV. The company already its first version it worked like a charm, and it became very popular. And now here we are with the 2nd gen of the same product. Priced at just $35 which just translates to little over 2,000 INR, it is definitely worth the price. The device itself is all plastic with rubber like a protective jacket for the cord. This is way different from the first one which essentially had a thumb drive design. The main part measures just 2 inches wide and remains relatively thin. This chromecast does requires a separate power source and Google does provides a cable in the box for that.
To set up the chrome cast, all you have to do is download the app and follow the instructions on display. So the main question is, how does a chromecast work? On your phone, any app with the chrome cast icon like Netflix, for instance, can be cast. Tap the icon and select the chrome cast that you want to stream to. Now your phone through Wi-Fi will signal the chrome cast to open its own app and retrieve that particular video from the internet. It is not a mirroring device and hence it never gets your streaming video from your phone. After you are done, the dongle will start streaming your media through the wi-fi and then you are simply free to do anything on your smartphone. Think of it as a versatile and immersive remote control. You can also adjust the volume and rub through the file, etc. or even browse through other media. This will work both on your Apple as well as Android devices.
The new chrome cast is far better in comparison to the older one in terms of performance overall. However, in real world experiences, it is not too drastic to go all crazy about it. Do make a note that it can also be used a mirroring device, but it is not just a mirroring device. So overall for the price, if all you want to do is stream the content, you really cannot go wrong here. However, if you have the original chromecast, you should just stick to that one but if not then this is as good as it is going to get.
